Accessibility is for everyone! You may think that the only users affected by non-accessible content are people with some kind of visual, physical, auditory or cognitive disability. This is not true, good accessible websites and content benefits everyone.
All of us, at some point, may need an accessible feature on a website. This could be due to a life long disability but this could also be because of a temporary or situational disability. We believe everybody should have the same experience when visiting our websites. Our web and digital content should be available to everyone regardless of ability, age, situation or disability.
Here are some stats on how many people in the UK have specific conditions and impairments:
- 14.1 million disabled people, that's around 1 in 5 people
- around 1.5 million people have a learning difficulty
- estimated 1 in 10 people have dyslexia
- estimated 2 million people are living with sight loss
- 12 million have hearing loss greater than 25dBHL
- estimated 151,000 people use British Sign Language
